Recording balances
Once your accounts are set up, recording balances is the main thing you’ll do in WealthTrunk. Every update adds a dated balance to each account’s history, and together they build your net worth history.
How often to update
Whatever you’ll stick with. Most people update once a month, often after payday or when statements arrive. Weekly works if you like watching closely; quarterly is fine if you’d rather check in less often. Consistency matters more than frequency.
Set up reminders so you don’t have to remember.
Your progress over time
One update is a snapshot. A year of updates is a story. Over time, your Balance History and Monthly Net Worth charts show how your wealth is growing, how fast debts are shrinking, and what changed month to month.
Update every account on the same day when you can. Your charts will be more accurate.
Update all accounts
- Accounts tab → Update All (Mac: ⌘ B).
- Enter each new balance. If one hasn’t changed, tap its previous balance above the keyboard.
- Tap Done.
Update one account
Open the account and tap the pencil next to Account Balance.
Siri, Spotlight, and Shortcuts
- Siri: “Update my balance in WealthTrunk”, or name the account: “Update Chase Checking balance in WealthTrunk”.

- Shortcuts: use the Update Account Balance action.
Action Button or Back Tap
Record a balance from anywhere with the iPhone Action button, or with Back Tap by tapping the back of your iPhone.
- In Shortcuts, create a shortcut with WealthTrunk’s Update Account Balance action. Leave Account and Amount empty to be asked each time.
- Assign it:
- Action button: iPhone Settings → Action Button → Shortcut, then select your shortcut.
- Back Tap: iPhone Settings → Accessibility → Touch → Back Tap, choose Double Tap or Triple Tap, then select your shortcut.
Reminders
Settings → Notifications → Net Worth Reminders. Choose frequency, day, and time.
Keep balances fresh
An old balance makes your net worth, charts, and projections less accurate. To spot accounts that are behind:
- Highlight Stale Accounts (Settings → Charts & Lists): colors the “last updated” date of accounts older than 1 week, 1 month, 6 months (default), or 1 year. Set it to match how often you update.
- Sort By → Last Updated in the Accounts ••• menu.
- Staleness Indicator (Settings → Charts & Lists): a dashed line on Balance History when your latest update is over 7 days old.
Add past balances
Import history with the balance history CSV template.
