Net Worth projections

The Balance Projection card on the Dashboard shows where your whole household is headed. It adds up every account projection into one line, month by month.

How it’s calculated

  1. Each account included in projections is forecast on its own: assets grow with their Expected Return and Monthly Contribution, and debts shrink with their Loan Rate and Monthly Payment.
  2. Every month, those forecasts are converted to your default currency and added together. Debts are subtracted.
  3. A paid-off debt stays at zero, and an asset stops getting contributions at its owner’s Retirement Age but keeps growing.

Only accounts with Include In Projections on are counted, so excluded accounts like checking, closed accounts, and pensions are left out.

How far it goes

The projection runs to the end of the year the last primary profile reaches their Retirement Age.

For example, if you’re 40 with a Retirement Age of 65, and your spouse is 35 with a Retirement Age of 62, you retire in 25 years and your spouse in 27. The projection runs 27 years, to the end of the year your spouse turns 62.

What the card shows

  • Title: what’s projected, like Projected Net Worth. The big number is the value at the end of the projection.
  • Net Worth, Assets, Liabilities, or Liquid Assets: tap a card in Net Worth Cards at the top of the Dashboard to switch the projection to match. If that card is hidden, tap the projection’s title to choose.
  • Scrub: drag across the chart to see the projected value for any month.
  • Stats: the number at the top right shows ages, contributions, and more. See Projection stats.

The card follows your profile selection. Select just you to see your own projection, or you and your spouse for the household.

Today’s money

Settings → Charts & Lists → Inflation Settings → set Inflation Rate and turn on Show in Today’s Money. Example: $1M in 30 years at 2.5% inflation shows as about $477k.

Retirement income

The projection stops at retirement and doesn’t subtract withdrawals. To estimate the income your projected balance could support, use the Withdrawal stat or the FIRE card.

FIRE

  • FIRE number = monthly spending × 12 ÷ withdrawal rate
  • Coast FIRE = what you need invested today to reach your FIRE number by retirement with no more contributions
  • Tap the card’s title to switch; tap the gear to set Monthly Spending and withdrawal rate.

FIRE is a simplified estimate (one blended return, no taxes), so it won’t exactly match other projections.

Already retired?

Projections need a retirement age in the future. Hide the projection cards if they don’t apply.
